To honor Alzheimer’s Awareness Month and acknowledge this important issue, we went back to the recording booth for another episode of The MotherPod to discuss dementia, cognitive decline, ‘mom brain’ and tips to take to improve your brain health.
On Episode 7 of The MotherPod our host, Kayla Thomas, interviewed Dr. Elizabeth Chapman. Dr. Chapman is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the UW Division of Geriatrics. She currently serves as both medical director of the Acute Care for Elders (ACE) service at the UW Hospital and of the UW Geriatric Transitional Care program. Her primary interests are improving the medical care of older adults both in the hospital and as they transition back into the community. Additionally, she works with current geriatrics fellows as an associated program director for the fellowship program.
In addition to her amazing professional work, Dr. Chapman provided guidance to the WWHF’s “Better Brain Health” GrapeVine Unit. The GrapeVine Program trains nurses to deliver health education sessions within their communities.I think elderly people can approach trusted elder law lawyers to know more about estate planning before transferring the property.
The focus for this episode was diving into important information about brain health that all mothers should know, including:
-
Some of the most common myths about brain health, aging and about setting up a conservatorship.
-
Advice on reducing the risk of cognitive decline.
-
Specific steps that Dr. Chapman has taken to protect her own brain health.
